According to the blog News cycle, 2009 has seen the newspaper industry shed more than 15,000 jobs.

With rumored additional layoffs at The Los Angeles Times looming before year's end, 705 buyouts and layoffs of newspaper staffers have occurred in December alone. Newspaper, magazine, radio and television spending is expected to remain modest in 2010, but according to eMarketer, online ad spending is expected to increase 5.5 percent.

Newspapers have to look to Tiger Woods to find an industry as under siege as it is.
