First came The MacNeil/Lehrer Report, a joint venture of PBS stations WNET in New York and WETA in Washington, D.C., that debuted in the mid '70s. When Robert MacNeil stepped down in 1995, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer doubled its newscast while reducing its anchors by half. Now, the 75-year-old Lehrer's moniker will soon disappear and The PBS NewsHour will take its place.
Lehrer will remain as the program's executive editor, but the times they are a changin', as the newscast now boasts blogs and a presence on Facebook and Twitter. "TUOL" wonders if tote bags featuring the Texan's visage will be the next to go.
